Presume 50 sport (youth) teams that are registered to play in the same league. Obviously, not all teams can play against each other and they have to be split up into different series. How can these series be put together? There are millions of possible compositions, but which one is the best?

There are different conflicting boundary conditions that characterize this problem. The distance between the different clubs should certainly be taken into account. In addition, several teams specifically want or don’t want to play against each other. The quality of the teams may be an issue as well. And how many teams should play in one series?

It is clear that there is no straightforward solution for this problem. Any manual solution will not only require a huge amount of time, but will certainly be suboptimal. A custom-made algorithm solves this problem fast, automatically and in an optimal way.
